There are a lot of very long tunnels in the world. In 2010, the Swiss bored under the Alps (Europe’s version of the Himalayas) to speed the railroad journey between Northern Europe and Italy. Gotthard Base Tunnel’s 35.4 mile length eclipses the Japanese record of 14.5 miles for the Seikan undersea tunnel connecting Honshu and Hokkaido islands. However, the longest tunnel through the earth doesn’t carry any vehicles. The 85 mile Delaware Aqueduct provides 1.3 billion gallons of water daily to New York City, where Trouble’s family has an antique shop.

Question – What is it like to ride or drive through one of the world’s longest traffic tunnels?

Watch accidents in a 1.4 mile traffic tunnel underneath Moscow, the capital of Russia. The security camera videos are from the winter of 2006, when temperatures sank to minus 36 degrees Farenheit. Water always drips on the Lefortovo roadway from the Moskva River, flowing above the tunnel. In winter 2006, the puddles turned to sheets of black ice. Imagine what it would be like to ride in the double-length bus you are about to see.
